Complete Kalwakurty by next June: Harish

Kalwakurty Project works in old Mahbubnagar district should be completed by next June by speeding up works, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today directed officials.

At a review meeting at Jala Saudha here, the minister said that a four-member committee is constituted and asked it to submit a plan of action for speedy execution of the works by December 26. He sought to prepare a comprehensive plan to implement Yasangi plan to irrigate ayacut with crop wise details under the project. He asked the officials to strengthen Kalwakurty canals to take 4500 cusecs flood waters by Kharif in 2018.

He alleged that the previous governments neglected the projects. The TRS Government increased allotment to 40 tmc from 25 tmc for the project and increased its ayacut to 4.20 lakh acres. In addition to Kalwaykurty, Rajiv Bheema, Nettempadu, Koilsagar completion will increase irrigation to 8 lakh acres in Mahabubnagar he said.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has offered top priority to Palamur projects and works should be completed on time, Harish said. He said that till 2014 June the previous governments spent Rs 2716 cr and the TRS Government spent Rs 1121.17 cr in three and half years for Kalwakurty project. The government already announced to complete pending projects in Palamur and Adilabad will be completed by first budget session the minister said. Stating that a road map to complete pending works be prepared he warned of serious action against officials for any sort of negligence in this regard. The committee should take steps to avoid bottlenecks and take up works. (NSS)
