Comply orders against ‘Vigilantes’ in 2 weeks: SC orders Centre, States

New Delhi: The Apex court has finally issued strict orders of complying its directives on dealing with self styled vigilantes especially the ‘Cow vigilantes’ who boldly commit broad day light murders.

The SC on Monday has given two weeks time to the Central government including Union Territories and all states to comply its orders to curb the barbarous inhuman atrocities against innocent people by these vigilantes, The Telegraph reported.

The bench headed by CJI Dipak Misra and Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud have issued the directives after hearing the contempt plea filed against the Rajasthan government over lynching of Rakbar Khan by some social activists.

Rakbar was brutally hacked to death on suspicion of smuggling cows by cow vigilantes on July 20 just three days after the apex court had issued orders of bringing the criminals to justice.

However, the counsel appearing for the Rajasthan government, argued that action has already been initiated against police officials who have failed to prevent the crime.

Hearing which the court had asked the counsel to file an affidavit explaining the action taken against the officials.
