Congress-AAP coalition could prove a defeat for BJP

New Delhi: Not acting in the nation’s interest by forming an alliance in the national capital could really benefit the saffron party as the two most influential parties in Delhi, AAP and Congress will be contesting each other as well as BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

A sure win for definitely BJP, since the two parties don’t seem to act in the interest of the nation while continuing to fight each other surely proves their arrogance is definitely larger than any desire or plans to defeat BJP, TOI reports.

Ending the months of speculation, AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai had earlier said that the party is ready to “drink the poison” of Congress in order to defeat BJP, but the recent remarks coming from Congress leaders have suggested something completely off the talks putting an end to speculations of a possible alliance.

Speculations of their alliance started off when the two party leaders exchanged few tweets in June now seems to just have been the resolution in the assembly calling for the revocation of the Bharat Ratna to Rajiv Gandhi for the culpability of Congress note in the 1984 riots.

With AAP disowning the resolution, the event has left a bitter note with Congress.

Former CM Shiela Dikshit, recently appointed Delhi Congress chief, in her comments responding to AAP, indicated that the Rajiv Gandhi resolution had proved to be a deal breaker. There were implications of an alliance for Congress in Punjab as well and CM Amarinder Singh said AAP had the poor organizational presence in the state.

“We have been opposed to Congress ideology since the beginning. AAP exposed Congress’s corruption and reduced it to zero in Delhi. Due to the dictatorship of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, the need for an alliance of opposition parties has been felt to defeat BJP. Leaders of several likeminded parties pressed the need for a pre-poll alliance with Congress despite political differences,” said AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai.

With AAP registering a huge decline in votes to 26 percent in 2017 municipal elections against 54 percent secured votes in 2015 assembly election BJP managed to get 37% votes in 2017. Speaking of Congress, it has somehow managed to rise to 25 percent against 10% share in 2015 to register 21% of the votes. Now an alliance between AAP and Congress would definitely pose a stiff test for BJP.

The rise of AAP party if affected BJP has also declined Congress votes in Delhi, but Congress’s recent win in Chhattisgarh, MP, and Rajasthan, are now seen to have delivered a much-needed morale-booster for Congress in the capital.

AAP, on the other hand, has lost support among the middle classes and traditional residential colonies that had backed it in 2015.

Meanwhile, Dikshit refused to comment on the developments.

Rai, explaining the earlier moves for unity, said, “Likeminded leaders like Farooq Abdullah, M K Stalin, Chandrababu Naidu, Mamata Banerjee among others stressed that despite disagreements with Congress, we (AAP) should fight the elections together in the interest of the country.”
