Speaking to media after his arrest, Revanth Reddy’s wife, Geetha, said, “This is an attack on the people of Kodangal. At around 3 am, the police broke into our room and within a matter of five minutes, around 40 people forcefully took him away, the way they would take away a terrorist.

At least two senior Congress leaders, DK Shivakumar and Manish Tewari, tweeted videos of the arrest. “This is revolting,” Tewari said. “Revanth Reddy…picked up at 3 am? Is he a terrorist? The EC [Election Commission] should recommend the dismissal of the people responsible.”

Shivakumar said Revanth’s arrest was “highly condemnable”.

“We appeal to the EC that such intimidation goes against the spirit of free and fair elections,” the Karnataka minister said.
