Varanasi: The Congress Party has always been at the forefront when it comes to championing Dalit rights and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has a habit of always criticising, said General Secretary Digvijaya Singh on Saturday.
“The Congress Party keeps on fighting for the rights of Dalits, backward class and tribal people, while the BJP remains busy opposing it,” he said.
Singh was responding to media queries on Rahul Gandhi joining the hunger strike at the University of Hyderabad.
On Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s recent visit to Varanasi, Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is showing a dream to the people of the city that he could never fulfil.
“Prime Minister Modi is not going to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi again. Even if he talks about Kyoto in Varanasi – neither Varanasi can become Kyoto nor can Kyoto become Varanasi,” he added.
He also endorsed BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha’s criticism of the Centre’s decision to impose President’s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh.
Singh said, “He is right. We condemned the conspiracy behind bringing down a democratically elected government.”
In a series of tweets, Shatrughan Sinha had taken a jibe at Prime Minister Modi’s “great advisors” wondering what answers they will have if the Supreme Court ruled against the Centre.
“I have tremendous faith in our dashing, dynamic action hero PM. But wonder who the ‘great’ advisors are who advised President’s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh that too when the matter is sub judice in the Supreme Court under a five-judge constitutional bench. Wonder what was the hurry and worry,” he said.
“God forbid, if the decision does not go in our favour, wonder what explanation and answer we will have for our respected PM,” he tweeted. (ANI)
