Constitution to be run by elected representatives only: CJP

Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar said that only elected representatives should run a country.

Addressing the closing session of a judicial conference in Islamabad on Saturday, CJP Nisar said that according to the preamble of the Constitution, only elected representatives should run the country.
“This is the Constitution’s command,” Geo News quoted CJP Nisar as saying.

“The judiciary was a guardian of the Constitution and its members had taken an oath to defend it at any cost,” CJP Nisar said.

Safeguarding the basic rights of people is judiciary’s topmost priority.

He said a committee will be formed to implement the recommendations given in the judicial conference.
On May 4, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, said that general election would be held within 60 days after the formation of an interim government.

On May 31, the current government is expected to conclude its five-year term. The caretaker government will then take over to oversee the general elections. They are expected to be held in the last week of July or first week of August. (ANI)
