Beed: In an appalling incident ‘Joota Chupai’ ritual led to talaq soon after the Nikah was solemnized. According to sources as per the tradition, the brother-in-law of the groom stole the shoe and demanded ransom. The controversy over this led to group clash resulting in the injury of the groom.

The row intensified so much so that bride’s father called the Qazi and forced the groom to give instant ‘talaq’. The divorce took place in the same ‘mandap’ where the Nikah was solemnized.

The appalling incident occurred in Kaij tehsil of Beed district.
