Controversy over ‘Joota Chupai’ ritual led to talaq soon after Nikah

Beed: In an appalling incident ‘Joota Chupai’ ritual led to talaq soon after the Nikah was solemnized. According to sources as per the tradition, the brother-in-law of the groom stole the shoe and demanded ransom. The controversy over this led to group clash resulting in the injury of the groom.

The row intensified so much so that bride’s father called the Qazi and forced the groom to give instant ‘talaq’. The divorce took place in the same ‘mandap’ where the Nikah was solemnized.

The appalling incident occurred in Kaij tehsil of Beed district.

Daughter of Shaikh Nabi Sikandar was married off to Sultan Younus. After the Nikah, the brother-in-law of the groom hid the shoe of the groom which triggered controversy and fight.

The groom couldn’t get the shoe even after Nikah, fight and talaq. He went to the police station with henna laced bare feet. Police have registered a case and investigations are underway.
