Court orders Delhi police to file FIR against Arnab Goswami

NEW DELHI: Patiala House Court has directed the police to register a First Information Report against Arnab Goswami for allegedly hacking the email account of Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor, Bar & Bench reported on Saturday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmender Singh on January 21 ordered the SHO concerned to registrated an FIR against the Republic TV Editor-in-Chief and investigate the matter.

According to Dr. Tharoor’s complaint, Goswami and the news channel allegedly involved in theft of confidential documents that were part of the investigation report related to the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.

Tharoor, in his petition submitted in the court had alleged that, “proposed accused persons illegally accessed those confidential documents and broadcast them on their news channel. It is alleged that proposed accused persons accessed the complainant’s e-mail account without his authority or consent and shared the personal Emails on their news channel.”

The complaint by the senior Congress leader and former Union minister also said, “It is alleged that accused persons accessed the complainant’s email account without his authority or consent and shared the personal emails on their news channel. It is submitted that accused persons even filed said materials/ documents as part of their reply in civil suit before high court.”

The court that has posted the matter for further hearing on April 4.
