Court orders Nawaz Sharif’s appearance, if fails issues non- bailable warrant

Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau(NAB) has today issued a warrant against former PM Nawaz Sharif in relation with Azizia Steel Mills and also in various other offshore companies references against him.

Justice Mohammad Bashir headed the hearing. Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s counselor submitted three pleas seeking exemption from the court or 7 days and also to stop trial court proceedings.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor said since former PM is deliberately not appearing in the court, the court should issue his arrest warrant.

Though the Counsellor filed three pleas seeking exemption from court appearance, the judge, rejecting his pleas, said he will be given just one last chance to appear in the court on 3 November failing which, a non-bailable warrant would be issued against him.

The NAB has indicted Nawaz Sharif in various references regarding Park Lane Apartments, Al Azizia Steel Mills and also various offshore companies while Maryam Nawaz and his husband (retd) Capt Safdar were only indicted in reference with Park Lane apartments.

Earlier in July, Pakistan Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif for failing to declare his assets and his source of income. The apex court has also ordered NAB to carry out further investigations of the Sharif family members.

Back in 1993, Nawaz was disposed from his seat as PM for charges of corruption. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1999 after his second term ended. Nawaz was later allowed to go into exile in Saudi Arabia.

He made his return in 2007 and became PM for the third time in 2013.
