Hyderabad: The CPI, one of the grand alliance partners, which has been warning the Congress party that it would pull out of the alliance if their demands for requisite number of Assembly seats were not met, has finally decided to sail with it and contest the upcoming elections.
CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy on Tuesday announced that his party has decided to fight the upcoming elections as a grand alliance partner. “The sole aim of all grand alliance partners was only one. It must defeat the ruling TRS party at the hustings. Keeping this in mind, we will fight the elections under the umbrella of the grand alliance,” he said.
Addressing media persons here today after party’s executive committee meeting, the CPI leader said as the Congress party conceded three Assembly seats to them, they would announce the names of their contesting candidates on Wednesday. He, however, hastened to state that they would ask their ally, the Congress party, to leave one more Assembly seat for the CPI in Nalgonda district. “The Congress has given us three seats. But we have been demanding for one more seat. We want to contest elections from either Munugodu or Deverakonda Assembly constituencies in Nalgonda district. We will hold discussions on the issue with the grand alliance partners,” he said. He also said they were given Husnabad, Wyra and Bellampally Assembly segments as part of the seat sharing arrangement of the grand alliance.
Commenting on the common manifesto of the grand alliance, Chada made it clear that they would jump into the election campaign with the common manifesto while noting that their objective was to ensure victory of the grand alliance. “The people in the State have full confidence in the grand alliance partners and there was a strong desire among them to see us come to power after the upcoming elections. They want us to win the elections and send Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao home”.
Revealing the details of the executive committee meeting, the CPI secretary said they discussed on the strategies needed to defeat the TRS and action plan was needed to be put in place to carry out the election campaigning in the State. Reddy also threw light on friendly contest concept mooted by the Congress party. He said there was no room for such concepts in the grand alliance. “Once the seat sharing arrangements were over, there should not be any rebel candidate from any party. There was also no scope for friendly contest between the grand alliance partners. All the alliance partners and their leaders should work together to ensure defeat of the ruling party,” he said.
