Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested four persons in Badaun district on allegations of beating up a Dalit man and also forcing him to drink urine.
SHO of Hazratpur has been suspended following the allegations for the negligence of duty resulting in the assault of the Dalit man.
According to initial reports, the victim identified as Sitaram Valmiki was forced to drink urine after he refused to work on fields and was reportedly thrashed for being a Dalit by some influential men in his village.
The victim said refusing to listen to their command irked the men who in turn started thrashing him when they found him gathering fodder in the field rather than working on the field.
The accused taking action against the victim, dragged him all the way to the village. They started thrashing him after tieing him to a neem tree
“They pulled out my moustache and even made me drink urine as shoes and slippers came raining down on me,” said the Dalit victim.
According to Badaun Police, a case has been registered at the Hazratpur police station under Sections 308, 342, 332, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of SC/ST Act were also evoked against the four accused.
The accused arrested were identified as Vijay Singh, Shailendra Singh, Vikram Singh and Pinku Singh, all hailing from Azampur Visauriya village.
IG Dhruv Kant Thakur told he met the victim in his house on Monday and also instructed the SSP Ashok Kumar to take action in the case.
The Dalit Man’s wife said she made repeated attempts to inform the Police about the assault but the Police failed to take any action on the matter.
