Dalit teen assaulted over love affair with Upper Caste girl

Ahmedabad: On Monday, a 17-year-old Dalit student was assaulted by two people on the suspicion of having an affair with an upper caste girl.

According to the detail of the report, the victim is a student of class 12 and a resident of Dhanodarda village in Patan district.

The victim in his FIR stated, “I had reached the examination centre, Sarvajanik Vidya Mandir High School in Dhinoj village, by state transport bus around 1 pm. While waiting outside the exam centre, Ramesh Patel, whom I recognise only by face, came to me. He asked me to come along with him as he had some work. He took me to another person, who was waiting with a motorcycle. They both rode me to a nearby farm in Gorad village,” News18 report.

He did not inform anyone till Wednesday when his mother saw the injury marks on his back as he was taking a bath. After her inquiry, he was taken to a hospital and FIR was filed.

The Gujrat’s Vadgam constituency MLA, Jignesh Mevani, Dalit leader said, on the festival of Holi the BJP played with the blood of Dalits.

After visiting the victim at the hospital on Wednesday, the leader said, “He was almost paralyzed and scared to file an FIR against the accused.”

The leader claimed that the victim was not only stopped from taking the exam but also threatened not to write his next exam otherwise he will be killed.

Jignesh Mevani urged to take serious action against the accused. Giving 48 hours of time he said if the accused were not arrested within 48 hours then a protest will be launched and his team will ensure that no BJP leader is able to garland the statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar on April 14.

An FIR was registered under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 114 (abettor present when an incident took place).
