Darul Uloom Deoband’s fatwa on custom of “uncle carrying bride to palanquin” triggers debate

Lucknow: A fatwa issued by Darul Uloom Deoband triggered debate. As per the fatwa, the custom of maternal uncle carrying bride to palanquin is un-Islamic if it gives birth to lust.

According to the report published in DC, this fatwa was issued when a query was made by a Muzaffarnagar-based man.

The fatwa also supported bride’s mother accompanying her to the palanquin.

On the custom of Lal Khat, Darul Uloom Deoband made it clear that it is un-Islamic and it should be abandon.

Meanwhile, these fatwas triggered row and many including UP Shia Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi expressed their views.
