Dejected lover ends life as girlfriend walks away for another man

Bengaluru: Dejection, unrequited love often has lethal sad endings when those emotions are not reciprocated.

In a similar incident, an engineering student committed suicide by hanging himself in a lodge after his girlfriend dumped him for another man, DH reports.

Unable to deal with the dejection, 20-year-old Sunil J S – a third year engineering student of Government Engineering College, Karwar allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his room using a bedsheet at a Shree lodge at Majestic in central Bengaluru.

A native of Holenarasipura, Hassan district, Sunil had come to Bengaluru on February 13 after lying to his family that he was going to Karwar.

The very next morning Sunil did not respond when the hotel staff tried to talk to him.

The staff then called up his relative on the number provided by Sunil when he checked inside the lodge. It was only after Sunil’s brother arrived at the lodge, the staff broke open the door and found Sunil hanging from the ceiling.

According to police, Sunil was in love with his classmate Arpitha while studying at the Taralabalu Jagadguru PU College. They got into a relationship for two years until Sunil had to move to Karwar while Arpitha went on to join a college in her hometown, Arsikere.

Sunil felt dejected when he learned Arpitha had become close to her classmate Bharath when he had come home recently for a 15-day vacation.

During the investigation, the Police found a suicide letter on a table in the hotel room. It read: “Arpitha is my lover and since Bharath H S has threatened me over my life, I am taking the extreme step. I was in love with Arpitha for the past two years. Now she doesn’t want me and is in love with Bharath. They both had even threatened me that they will offer supari and eliminate me, and Bharath along with his associates had earlier assaulted me. Both of them need to be punished.”

The Police suspects that Arpitha and Bharath had been conspiring to eliminate Sunil.

Sunil’s brother later on filed a complaint with the Upparpet police against the two under section abetment to suicide. No arrests have been made so far.
