Demonetization exposes erratic functioning in country: JP

Loksatta founder-president Dr Jayaprakash Narayan today said demonetization decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has exposed the erratic functioning in the country. The big note ban has exposed inefficiency and how best accountability system is in bad condition, he said and suggested five measures to improve efficiency and accountability in the system.

Whishing people on the occasion of 2017 New Year, Jayaparakash Narayan said there was urgent need to improve citizen services by bringing a Service Guaranty Act envisaging that certificates, including FIR, water and electricity connections, land records should be provided to citizen instantly. “There should not be any disparity between the poor and rich and they should be provided equal justice and all should be equal before the law. Crime wing should be separated from law and given an autonomous status. Every district should have a forensic laboratory and cases should be solved locally,” he added.

The Loksatta president also stressed the need to provide a standard education and health services. Education and Health sectors should have  additional 0.6-0.8 per cent share in GDP and make this sector more qualitative. The government should provide 33% funds directly to local bodies. He also said reforms should be brought in election system to prevent use of black money by corrupt and politicians with criminal record. (NSS)
