Dharamsala’s ‘oldest film festival’ returns with a buffet of new movies

Dharamsala: The 14th edition of the Free Spirit Film Festival began in here on Saturday with the screenings of films like ‘Infected’, ‘Parichay’ and ‘Motherland’.

People from various nations have travelled to India for the screenings at the festival here in Hotel Tibet. In total, 21 movies will be screened during the five-day fest, which concludes on October 31.

The line-up this year includes new, exciting films from 2018 and late 2017. There will be 13 awards presented in different categories.

“The Free Spirit Film Festival is the oldest film festival in Mcleodganj. This is the 14th edition that we are organising. This festival has all kind of films and themes, stories and ideas, and people are very happy to be here,” said Lobsang Wagyal, director of the film festival.

“There will be a grand jury to select all winners, Out of the 21 movies, 10 are from Indian directors,” he added.Meanwhile, a visitor at the festival, named Vikas said, “I am a traveller like many others here and I am here to enjoy the movies. People have come here from many places.”
