Diehard Arsenal fan Inzamam Ul-Haq named his son after Midfielder Mesut Ozil

MALAPPURAM: A diehard Arsenal fan Inzamam Ul-Haq has named his new born boy after his favourite German player Mezut Ozil.

Inzamam is a native of Manjeri, a small town in Kerala says he is an ardent fan of English football club since childhood.

“I have always been an Arsenal fan, the mighty team which included French legend Thierry Henry attracted me towards the club since my school days.”

When his wife Fida Sanam gave birth to a baby boy on December 29 last year, he name his new born after his favourite footballer, who plays for the premier English club, Arsenal.

“Ever since Fida was pregnant we were thinking of naming our kid after an Arsenal player, even though many of my friends suggested that we should name him after the long-term club manager Arsene Wenger, I preferred Ozil,” recounts 26-year-old Inzamam.

Inzamam, a civil engineer by profession made a slight change in the first name ‘Mesut’ which was replaced with a meaningful Arabic word ‘Mehd’ means “instructor” in Turkish, followed by Ozil, which translated to “genuine”.

And his little infant was named Mehd Ozil in honour of his favourite player Mezut Ozil.

A media team from the London-based football club in Malappuram recently shoot a video of baby Ozil and family and also uploaded on Arsenal’s official Facebook page titled ‘A story of a special young fan from Kerala’ garnering more 1,75,000 users.
