MUMBAI: In an unfortunate incident, a Dongri building collapsed in Mumbai on Tuesday and 14 people were crushed to death under the debris.
Among the people who survived was a mother who lost her two sons in the tragedy.
Story of this shattered mother is heartbreaking
It seems she survived just to relive the horrible moment of the tragedy in which she lost her two sons under the heartless debris.
As per Mumbai Mirror reports, twenty-eight-year-old Alima Idris and her sons Shehzad (7) and Arbaaz (4) live in a village near Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district. The mother and sons were in Mumbai so that the family can spend together few days during kids’ holidays.
The mother was planning to return to Gonda but destiny had some other plan.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror from JJ Hospital, Alima says that it was around 11.30 am on Tuesday when her kitchen began to shake and the house “came crashing down”.
“It was dark and dusty; I was gasping for air. A large concrete slab had me pinned down. Then I heard my kids crying and I somehow wriggled through the rubble and found them,” she was quoted as saying by the news paper.
Alima and her sons were trapped in the debris for nearly 18 hours. She kept their morale up for hours saying that their father will soon come and rescue them.
Kids died of asphyxiation
At around 1.30 am next day (Wednesday) , rescue workers were able to locate Alima and at around 2:00 am, they rescue Alima but by then, both the boys died of asphyxiation and trauma wounds.
“Why did I agree to come here with the kids? Why didn’t I just stay put in the village?” said Alima while crying uncontrollably.
Alima, whose husband, Rashid, 31, works as a tailor in Mumbai also the lone breadwinner doubt that his wife will ever come out of the trauma of of losing the boys.
The BMC has claimed that it had classified the building in the “C1 category” back in 2017. This classification meant the building was meant “to be evacuated for demolition at the earliest”.
