DUBAI: There’s a new guideline book for foreign workers in UAE so they know their rights, responsibilities and the law of the country.
Title “A Guide for Foreign Workers” the book:

- Comes in Three Languages-Arabia, English, Urdu
Major-General Obaid Muhair Bin Surour, deputy director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai, said the guidebook available in three languages — Arabic, English and Urdu, help the expats in the country to avoid falling into troubles, reported Khaleej Times.
“We aim to educate all one million workers in Dubai. We want them to be more aware of their rights, responsibilities and the country’s social aspects. Our aim is to make the worker happy in his stay in the country,” Maj-Gen Bin Surour said.
Bin Surour, who is also the chairman of the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs in Dubai (PCLA), added that the new guidelines explains the workers rights and responsibilities and follow the law and regulations. “We are keen to prevent any violations of workers’ rights, and help them be duly responsible and correctly understand what they should and should not do, because some are not aware of the law.”
Initially, about 100,000 workers will get a copy of the guidebook at the training sessions taking place mainly at two medical centres, in Al Muhaisana and Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) areas.
Bin Surour furthered said that the most common crimes committed by workers include working for someone where you are not sponsored – subject to a minimum fine of Dh50,000 each.
The guidebook also shows the list of punishments:
“Overstaying their visa and drug trafficking may land the worker in life imprisonment; drug abuse gets four years jail, and murder can lead to a life sentence.”
