Dragging Taj Mahal into controversies not correct, says Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik

KANPUR: Expressing discontent over BJP MP Sangeet Som’s remark against Taj Mahal, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Tuesday said dragging the monument into controversies is uncalled for.

Som had courted controversy on Sunday, stating that the iconic Taj Mahal was built by traitors and hence, cannot be included in the Indian history.

Speaking to media, the governor said, “Taj Mahal is one of the wonders of the world, to drag it into controversies is not correct.”

Earlier, in the day Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shrugged off Som’s remark and said, “It does not matter who built it and for what reason; it was built by blood and sweat of Indian labourers”.

He further said that he would visit the monument on October 26 and attend a programme to promote tourism in Agra.

Speaking to ANI, Adityanath said, “The Taj Mahal is very important for us, especially from tourism perspective it is our priority to provide facilities and safety to tourists there. It does not matter who built it and for what reason; it was built by blood and sweat of Indian labourers”.
