Drunken driving cases: 358 persons imprisoned

Hyderabad: During the period from May 1 to 18, the city traffic police filed 2088 charge-sheets against drunken drivers and produced them in the III and IV Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Erramanzil.

In this regard, the Metropolitan Magistrate Courts have awarded imprisonment to 358 accused, and 21 Driving Licenses have been permanently canceled and driving licenses of 70 other offenders were suspended for periods ranging from 3 months to 10 years, apart from imposing fine up to Rs 44,67,500. All the accused were sentenced to imprisonment ranging from one day to 30 days and sent to Chanchalguda jail.

Police said those who were convicted would face difficulties in getting government jobs, passport and visa clearance. The offenders will also be sent for counseling at TTI Goshamahal and Begumpet, police added. (NSS)
