‘Earth Anthem’ penned by Indian diplomat garners global support

Brasilia: With growing global support towards an anthem for the planet, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has also backed the Earth Anthem.

In a letter of support, Mauricio Dionisio de Souza, the National Representative of IUCN in Brazil, has called Earth Anthem- a global and important initiative to promote the conservation of nature among nations.

IUCN was created in 1948 and has since evolved into the world’s largest environmental network.
Earth Anthem is a poem-song penned by Indian poet-diplomat Abhay K. in 2008 and was launched in 2013 on World Environment Day. It has been translated into over 30 languages worldwide, spoken by over 90 percent of the humanity.

World known violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam composed music for the anthem in June 2017 and the Symphonic Orchestra of Brasilia performed it in February 2018.

UNESCO has called Earth Anthem ‘a creative and inspiring thought which would help in bringing the world together.’

Earth Anthem is supported by Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Bollywood actor Manisha Koirala, Dada Saheb Phalke award-winning director Shyam Benegal, Oscar award-winning director Jefferey D. Brown, among other prominent personalities across the world.

Thousands of schools spread over the globe use Earth Anthem to celebrate Earth Day and World Environment Day. Earth Anthem is also supported by Habitat for Humanity.
