Chikkamagaluru: At least four Dalit youths were allegedly attacked by activists of the Bajrang Dal at Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka over storing beef at home.
The incident took place on July 17, last Sunday but has come to light only on July 23.
According to the Karnataka Communal Harmony Forum (KCHF), a gang of 30-40 Bajrang Dal members barged into the house of a the Dalit family and beat them up with sticks and threatened them with machetes. They also warned them that if they didn’t stop eating beef, they would be killed.
“Around 30-40 members of the Bajrang Dal came and attacked Balraj and four members of his family claiming there was meat inside their house,” A. K. Ashok, General Secretary of the of the KCHF, said. “They beat them mercilessly with sticks,”Ashok added.
A case against the Bajrang Dal activists were booked under Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2015 after Dalit rights groups demands that strict action must be taken against the accused.
The incident echos similarity to Dadri mob lynching of last September where Mohammed Akhlaq was lynched to death and his son was brutally assaulted.
