Election Commission unviels cVIGIL App to stop poll code violation

The Election Commission (EC) has introduced cVIGIL app at pan India level to empower citizens in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Citizens can record any violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) on their mobile and send it to the election authorities for appropriate action.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora stated that “By using the cVIGIL app, citizens can record on his Android mobile and promptly to election authorities report any violation of Model Code of Conduct, any incident of intimidation or inducement within minutes of having witnessed them and without having to go to the office of the returning officer.”

cVIGIL can immediately report on incidents of misconduct without having to rush to the office of the returning officer to lodge a complaint. It has a live photo/video with auto location feature which can be fairly relied upon by election machinery to navigate to the right spot and take prompt action.

If you find any violation of MCC, simply click a picture or to take a video and quickly describe the incident and upload it on the cVIGIL mobile application. If you desire to remain anonymous you have the option to do so. Based on the complaint, the District Control Room allocates cVIGIL cases to the Flying Squads etc. through GIS-based platform.

The Election Commissioner added that “The authorities and officials are duty bound to take action on it within 100 minutes.”

In addition to this, the EVMs will have photographs of contestants to ensure you that you vote for your candidate. The move aims at helping voters identify the political leaders in the fray. This was announced by the Election Commission on Sunday.

Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced the schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha election, the elections will begin from April 11 and end on May 19 and the counting of votes will be done on May 23.
