Elections 2018: Mayawati announces support to Congress in Madhya Pradesh

BSP chief Mayawati has officially announced support to the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, taking the Congress past the majority mark of 116 in the 230-seat Assembly in the state.

She stated that, “We fought these elections to ensure that the BJP does not come back to power. While BSP has performed well, we did not do as well as we had thought.”

“Our aim is to keep the BJP out of power. And that is why we have decided to support the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. We have decided to support the Congress in Rajasthan as well.”

The Congress who got 114 seats to oust the BJP had fallen just short of the magic number. The outgoing chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said he would be tendering his resignation soon.

To meet Governor Anandiben Patel and stake the claim for form the government, senior Congress leaders Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Digvijaya Singh will reach the Raj Bhavan at noon
