Electronic Screen Protector: Google’s AI to prevent snooping your phone

Tech giant Google has developed a new Artificial intelligence system that detects anyone snooping your phone over the shoulder.

According to a news report published in Hindustan Times, the new technology has been named Electronic Screen Protector, and it works through front camera and prevents stealing of crucial information on your phone.

The technique is currently just an academic project which will be presented at the December 4-9 Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference in California.

However, the technology to prevent snooping over personal gadgets is not new. Previously, HP has introduced ‘Sure View’ technology on its laptops which works through a single button by making the screen look obscure. Unless it is viewed face-on, the other person won’t be able to see anything on the screen.

Google’s new technology works faster and better than Sure View.

To detect each person’s gaze, it takes 2 milliseconds, for face recognition it takes 47 milliseconds and 115 milliseconds per frame for face detection.
