Engineer held for three dozen thefts in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: A 35-year-old man, working as an executive engineer at a multi-national company here, has been arrested for his involvement in over three dozen cases of theft, police said on Tuesday.

Shivraj, who has a B.Tech degree and was getting a salary of over Rs.40,000 per month from the firm at Sohna Road, was arrested for targeting flats of his own residential society.

He and his father Omkar Singh lived in their flat in Kendriya Vihar in Sector 56.

Shivraj, who was a divorcee, used to steal cash, jewellery, electronic and other items to fulfill the demands of his girlfriends and sell the rest of the items online, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hawa Singh told IANS.

After collecting information about flats whose occupants were away, he used to steal the items at night, and worked at his firm in the day time, the police officer said.

Omkar Singh was employed at IIT-Delhi before his retirement and was working with the security cell of the residential society.

Police were investigating if Omkar Singh was also involved in the theft cases.

Shivraj was arrested after a tip by some residents over his suspicious activities.

Stolen jewellery, cash and other items were recovered from the possession.
