Hyderabad: Any government in the world takes pride in maintaining its cultural heritage and the buildings and monuments of historical importance. Many countries have preserved the monuments which date back to thousands of years and spent a lot of money on their conservation.
Egyptian pyramids have been converted into tourist spots where thousands of tourists from all parts of the world visit every year.
Archaeology Department maintained the historical monuments during the erstwhile Congress and TDP governments.
It was expected of TRS government of Telangana that it would pay special attention to the conservation of ancient buildings.
It seems that TRS govt. has formulated a strategy to wipe out the monuments of Asifjahi period.
Unani Dispensary located at Charminar is in dilapidated condition. CM of TS has shown no interest to get it repaired. He perhaps doesn’t want to promote the Unani system of medicine.
In the same manner, no interest is being shown to get the Osmania General Hospital building repaired. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the state.
When the conservationists and civil society members raised their voice against its demolition, govt. had to take back its decision.
Now that the TRS govt. has taken a decision to demolish the old Secretariat and Errum Manzil buildings, it is being opposed by the members of civil society.
A report published recently in the Business Standard revealed that the old monuments of the British located at Kolkata, Ooty, Goa and other places are being renovated to beautify them.
It seems that KCR is bent upon dismantling the monuments of the Nizam one after the other.
It is very surprising that the local political party which is an ally of TRS is keeping quiet on this issue. This party should have been the first organization to protect but it seems that political obligations force it to maintain silence.
The people of Hyderabad are justified in asking the question to the local party that why it is not taking any interest in the conservation of historical monuments?
It is very regrettable that for petty political gains, it is not appropriate to suppress the voice of conscience.
