European markets slide at open

London: European stock markets slid at the open on Friday, with all eyes on a Group of Seven summit set to focus on a potential global trade war.

London’s benchmark FTSE 100 index shed 0.5 percent to 7,662.69 points compared with the close on Thursday.

In the eurozone, Frankfurt’s DAX 30 tumbled 1.1 percent to 12,668.77, hit also by data showing that industrial production in Germany unexpectedly fell in April, adding to fears of a slowdown in Europe’s powerhouse economy.

The Paris CAC 40 meanwhile lost 0.5 percent to 5,419.71 points at the start of trading.
