Ex-Karnataka Minister Qamarul Islam passes away

Hyderabad: Veteran Congress leader and former Minister Qamarul Islam breath his last in Bangalore on Monday.

He was a six-term MLA and one term MP, who began his political career with the Muslim League, getting elected the first time to the Assembly in 1978, has emerged as the unchallenged Muslim leader in Gulbarga Uttar (North).

After his removal from Siddaramaiah cabinet in June this year, Congress President Sonia Gandhi appointed him as AICC secretary incharge for Kerala.

His body will be shifted to Gulbara later today.
