Exercise on for Panchayat polls begins

Hyderabad: Despite the Opposition crying foul against the Ordinance on the BC reservations ahead of the panchayat polls, the officials concerned have plunged into finalizing the reservation category and lists of wards and sarpanches in the State. Followed by a directive from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the officials have instructed the District Collectors to complete the process of identifying the wards and sarpanches reservation-wise and those of non-reservation.

The State government has clarified the issue by taking a key decision of an ordinance for 50 per cent reservations as per Supreme Court directive for the upcoming local bodies’ polls. The government plans to take more time to hold panchayat elections as the deadline of January 10 by the High Court was insufficient. The State Election Commission was preparing for the polls.
