Fake profiles created to malign Muslims in the Gurugram mob violence

Gurugram: Thousands of fake profiles were created to spread misinformation that mob violence which occurred recently in Gurugram to protest against the film ‘Padmavat’ was done by Muslims and Police had arrested them.

In fact, none of those arrested were Muslims and Gurugram police had clarified that. However, on Friday, these fake profiles went on to spread misinformation on Twitter to malign Muslims.

According to the news reported in Times of India, one of the Cyber experts who wish not to be named told that these misleading tweets were sent by bots which are basically thousands of fake profiles.

The spokesperson of twitter told that “We care deeply about the issue of misinformation and its potentially harmful effect on the civic and political discourse that is core to our mission. Twitter’s open and real-time nature is a powerful antidote to the spreading of all types of false information. This is important because we cannot distinguish whether every single tweet from every person is truthful or not. Journalists, experts and engaged citizens tweet side-by-side, correcting and challenging public discourse in seconds.”

The rumour was first spread by Shalini Kapoor on her facebook post. She lives in Kanpoor and is associated with “Khestriy Prabhari” of “Kanya Shakti Kranti” of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of BJP. The news was identified as fake by the Alt News, a website which is specialized in identifying fake news.

Muslims are just being targeted and maligned for no fault of their. It is request to all the social media users to not get carried away by the fake news deliberately spread by these right wing elements.
