Panchkula: Extorting money in a false rape case has landed a Deputy Superintendent of Police and two sub-inspectors ASIs all in misery after a local court has framed charges of corruption, extortion, false information and criminal conspiracy against them in a 2015 fake rape case.
The trial in the case is scheduled to begin on May 16, while DSP Desh Bandhu is currently posted at Haryana Police headquarters, ASI Raj Pal is posted Panchkula in Sector-25 crime branch, ASI Ramesh is posted in Yamunanagar, HT reported.
A local resident of Ambala, Rajni filed a rape complaint against Pranveer Saini on May 22, 2015, which was followed by Chandimandir police station booking the accused Pranveer of rape charges.
But Investigating officers later found the complaint was a fake one and was the DSP and the ASIs had only filed a fake rape case against the accused Pranveer to extort money from him.
The probe into the case revealed the then in-charge of Ramgarh Police post in along with the other accused ASI Raj Pal, had demanded extortion money of 40 lakh for themselves and the then Panchkula DSP Desh Bandhu.
The probe led to filing three separate challans in the extortion case.
The first one was filed against complainant Rajni and her associate Hasim Ansari on September 9, 2015.
The second challan was filed against the two ASI’s and Rajni’s acquaintances Nasim Ansari Salim Ansari, along with ASIs acquaintances Subodh Pruthi and Ashwani Sahni on November 9, 2015.
A third and final challan was filed against DSP Bandhu under various sections of the of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act on November 22, 2015.
The additional sessions Judge Narender Shaura hearing the extortion case stated that based on call records, phone transcripts, the probe reached to the conclusion that the complainant filed a false rape case and the Police officials had demanded extortion money from the accused.
“The court is of the view that there is prima facie evidence against them for framing of charge for commission of offences punishable under Sections 7, 8 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and also for commission of offences punishable under Section 389 (extortion) read with Section 120B (criminal conspiracy),” read the Judge’s order.
Rajni was charged with wrong information (Section 182), cheating by personation (Section 419), forgery (Section 468) and criminal conspiracy (Section 120-B) of the IPC.
