Farmers protest by dumping quintals of potatoes outside CM Yogi’s residence

Meerut: Farmers protesting to get an adequate price for their produce, dumped quintals of rotten potatoes on the road leading to CM Adityanath’s residence in Lucknow.

Adityanath government had fixed Rs 487 per quintal of potatoes, but farmers demanded Rs 10 a kg, that amounts to Rs 1,000 a quintal.

Unidentified farmers had entered the high-security on Vidhan Sabha and Kalidas Marg on Saturday under the cover of darkness and fog to throw hundreds of kilos of potatoes, reports Hindustan Times.

It is the not the first time that an incident like this has happened, hundreds of sugarcane farmers last October had burnt their crop outside the Vidhan Sabha for not getting an adequate amount of their produce.

The CM assured of looking into the matter by forming a group of ministers. He further accused his predecessors (Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party) for not handling the issues of farmers in their governance.
