Five new Medical Colleges to come in J&K in 2019

Jammu: With the Central government already sanctioning Rs 189 crores each for the set-up of five medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor Satya Pal Malik has called for the expeditious progress of the infrastructural and other facilities to ensure the Medical colleges start working from the next academic year.

The five new medical colleges are coming up at Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Anantnag and Baramulla and Governor Malik has directed a fast-recruitment of faculty and staff for these new medical colleges.

The faculty will be selected based on MCI norms. The Health and Medical Education Department Principal Secretary Atal Dulloo was directed to personally monitor the progress of these colleges and also closely coordinate the selection of the faculty at the earliest by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Responding to the progress of the new medical college, the principal secretary said the work is in full swing and is likely to be achieved as per slated time frame.

He also said that all the necessary steps are being taken care of before the Medical Council of India (MCI) team visits these colleges in December.

As many as 1,000 posts of medical officers have been referred to the PSC he said with over another 535 doctors have been engaged under the National Health Mission (NHM) to supplement services to far-flung areas, PTI reports.

Once another 254 medical officers join the department they will have to work in particular backward areas for at least a period of 5 years he added.
