Fix 1 day a year when women relax and men do all chores: Dikshit

New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said one day should be fixed every year when women relax completely while men perform all the duties, including domestic chores and taking care of children.

Speaking at All India Professionals Congress (AIPC) event here, she urged the organisation to spread the idea.
“I had thought of an idea that one day in a year, women will do no work and relax, while men will do all the work, including the washing clothes and looking after children,” she said amid laughter.

Noting that women account for more than 75 per cent of the work done in the society across the world, the former chief minister said that they should be given more respect than men.
“Can you imagine a world without women who do so much work.

They should be given more respect than men,” Dikshit said. She said that Women’s Day, held on March 8, had “lost its meaning” and asked “why not have a Women’s Day which is genuine and gives them relaxation”.
Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken also addressed the event hosted by south Delhi chapter of AIPC.
He stressed on the need for working for women from marginalised and deprived backgrounds who were cut off from mainstream.

The chairman of AIPC Shashi Tharoor asserted that every day should be Women’s Day.
