Ford wants to turn autonomous car control into gaming

Michigan: Ford envisions a future where controlling a smart car will be similar to playing a game on a smartphone. The company has recently obtained a patent for two driving modes which require a touchscreen device to control an autonomous vehicle.

As Engadget reports, one of the modes requires the user to tilt-to-steer approach to control the autonomous vehicle’s accelerometer and gyroscope. The second mode requires one to use a finger to turn an on-screen steering wheel.

While automakers are aggressively pushing towards self-driving vehicles, humans are yet to fully develop their faith in them. Akin to many patents, Ford may or may not choose to commercialise this feature and use it for research purposes to build something like an in-car control system for emergencies.
