Friday Namaz in Gurugram takes place with police protection

Gurugram: After miscreants disrupted the Friday prayer in Gurugram’s Wazirababd on 20 April, the number of people praying in the vacant land for 10 years, reduced even in the presence of police protection.

Six people were arrested as they chanted slogans and disrupted the Friday congregational prayer in Gurugram’s Sector 53. “We discovered this plot 10 years ago, with no houses or shops nearby. We realised we could offer namaz here without disturbing anyone, so we discussed it with the administration,” said Wajid Khan, the heads of Nehru Yuva Sangathan Welfare Society Charitable Trust as per a report by The Indian Express.

Sabir Qasmi, who runs a local Urdu newspaper, said: “The miscreants were less in number, but there was no point getting into a conflict. That would only ruin the atmosphere, so people who had come to pray just left.”

However, on Friday, about 15 minutes after the namaz, around 30 representatives of Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Kranti Dal, and Shiv Sena, arrived at the scene chanting “Jai Sri Ram”.

“We want people who have been arrested to be released, and cases against them to be taken back,” said Abhishek Gaur, district president of the Bajrang Dal. “We do not approve of this practice of taking over any space and congregating there illegally. We will not allow people offer namaz here,” he said.

Meanwhile, Haryana BJP spokesperson Raman Malik said, “The administration must ensure that any religious activity performed in a public place must be done after legal approval.”
