Gauri Lankesh murder: SIT releases sketches of suspect killers

Bengaluru: Officers of a Special Investigation Team probing the murder of journalist- activists Gauri Lankesh has on Saturday released three sketches of the suspected killers and seek public help.

According to SIT sources, “There were three people who came on two bikes to kill Gauri near her residence. Two were on one bike and one rider on another bike acted as recce. We were not able to identify anyone. Everybody were wearing helmets,” reported Indian Express.

“However, in one of the CCTV footage police have been able to get the eyes of the man who did the recce. Police took the help of three artists and based on the similarities that police found in the images, we have come up with a sketch of one suspect,” sources added.

 

“We got some leads from the CCTVs outside Gauri Lankesh’s home. We are investigating all angles. We have so far found no link to the Dabholkar murder,” Mr. Singh added.

When asked if Hindu outfit Sanatan Sanstha had any role in it, BK Singh, who is heading the SIT denied holding any particular group or outfit saying the change in external appearance, might have been done to “mislead” investigators.

“That info (Sanathan Sanstha) is only in the media. From our side, there is no info of involvement of any organisation till now,” he said.

55-year-old Gauri Lankesh, on September 5 was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside her residence in Bengaluru.

Lankesh was the editor of Kannada tabloid Gauri Lankesh Patrike.
