The GHMC is going to ban on plastic above 50 microns completely keeping in view of the importance of pollution free environment in the city.
A resolution has been passed by the Council in the General Body meeting held under the chairmanship of DR.B. Rammohan, Mayor in which all the public representatives, cit MLAs, MLCs, Corporators, Co-option Members, Dr.B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC and senior officials of the GHMC have attended the meeting.
The Mayor said that the GHMC is generating 5000 metric tons of garbage everyday in which 450 to 500 metric tons of plastic is being generated which is being used by the citizens through carry bags, etc., as a daily usage causing and creating pollution and posing dangers to the environment. The decision of plastic ban has been taken by the GHMC in compliance to the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and as recommended by the members the matter is placed before the Government for further necessary orders.
Most of the MLAs, MLCs, Corporators praised the GHMC Commissioner and officials for receiving prestigious awards from Hon’ble Prime Minister, Govt., of India and State Government and appreciated the officers for their team work in getting the awards.
Dr.B.Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC said that this awards have been achieved with the team works of officials, Public Representatives, NGOs, RWAs, and 30,000 staff of GHMC and full cooperation of citizens said the Commissioner.
The LED lights payments will only be made if they glow 98% said the Commissioner and in response to the questions raised by the Corporators every care will be taken for arranging temporary lighting, proper maintenance of street lights during ensuing Ramzan festival said the Mayor.
The Council has also discussed about the desiltation works and the works will be taken throughout the year with modernized technology duly fixing the responsibility to the contractors, so far 1,85,000 qubic meters desilt waste has been removed it is much more when compare to that of last year said the Chief Engineer Ziauddin.
Devender Reddy, CCP said that 840 bottle necks have been identified out of which 350 constructions have been removed and another 200 will be removed by this month end. Sports activities have also kept on online to curb irregularities said the Commissioner, GHMC.
There will no changes over the transfers of SFAs said the Mayor and Commissioner. Discussions with regard to increase of mosquito menace have also been discussed and necessary instructions have been given to the concerned to increase the men and machinery to control the menace on priority.(NSS)
