GHMC seizes footpath encroaching shops

Hyderabad: The GHMC Enforcement Wing has seized 60 shops altogether in one place called Hongkong Bazar at Secunderabad. On the same lines, 150 shops in various areas were seized by the Enforcement wing today, said Vishwajeet Kampati, Director, Vigilance & Enforcement Cell.

The GHMC has taken up footpaths encroachments drive in the recent past where more than 6000 footpaths have been cleared for the convenience of the citizens to walk on the footpaths i.e., Right to Walk. (Aim of the GHMC). Some of the encroachments which have been removed earlier, were again encroached, and the encroachment wing again removed them duly imposing heavy penalties against them.

The people who have again encroached even after clearing the footpaths were fined Rs. 10,000/- per shop for encroaching the footpaths. So far around Rs. Five lakhs have been collected by imposing fines on the encroachers.

The GHMC officials have already announced if anybody encroaches again and again, severe action will be taken and criminal cases would be filed against them duly cancelling their trade licenses etc., for the irregularities made by them. (NSS)
