Gina Gershon joins ‘Riverdale’ season 3

Washington: The ‘Riverdale’ family is ready to expand as American actor Gina Gershon has been added to the Jones family.

During a New York Comic Con panel on Sunday, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced that Gershon has been cast as Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) mother, while newcomer Trinity Likins will play his sister.

Gershon’s character, Gladys Jones, is described as a “Serpent with a GED,” a businesswoman who runs a chop shop. She acts as the Fagin to a crew of teenage car parts thieves, and the Serpents all snap to attention when she gives them an order, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

Hinting at the fate of Archie Andrews following the season-2 cliffhanger, the first trailer for the upcoming third season was released at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 in July.

The finale of ‘Riverdale’ season 2 had ended with Andrews being wrongly arrested for a murder he did not commit. The season 3 trailer revealed that the season will cover the character’s trial.

The trailer featured Archie, Veronica (Camila Mendes), Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) trying to have the “best Labor Day Weekend ever” after the “worst summer.”
It was also revealed that Golden Globe nominee Penelope Ann Miller would join the show in the upcoming season three.

Miller’s character is being discussed as one that has a tinge of grey, but makers said she will not be seen playing a villain on the show.

The third season is set to debut on October 10.
