Global cues, short-covering lifts equity indices

Mumbai: Broadly positive Asian markets, along with short-covering lifted the key Indian equity indices during the early morning trade session on Thursday.

According to market observers, healthy buying in capital goods, automobile and oil and gas stocks was witnessed during the session.

Around 9.30 a.m., the wider Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) traded higher by 38.85 points or 0.39 per cent at 10,082.95 points.

The barometer 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 32,615.05 points, traded at 32,735.11 points — up 137.93 points or 0.42 per cent — from its previous close.

The Sensex touched a high of 32,737.11 points and a low of 32,598.12 during the intra-day trade so far.

The BSE market breadth was bullish as only 1,307 stocks advanced against a decline of only 397 scrips.
