‘Go to Pakistan’: Mob with rods, hockey sticks attacks family on Holi

GURGAON: In an incident triggered by a game of cricket on Holi, a family in Gurgaon was beaten up allegedly by 20-25 men with hockey sticks and iron rods at their home on Thursday following which six people were arrested.

A video of the incident which has been doing rounds on the internet since Thursday in which a group of men are seen attacking men with sticks, as the women of the family, scream and beg them to stop.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gurgaon, Shamsher Singh stated that “The incident occurred on Thursday evening at 5.00 pm when some of the victim family members, belonging to a minority community, were playing cricket outside their residence in Bhup Singh Nagar.”

In the complaint, the victims stated that the trouble started when the family members were playing cricket in a vacant plot near the house and six to seven drunk people asked them not to play cricket on the street.

In his police complaint, the victim stated that “Two unknown men came on a bike and said, ‘What are you doing here? Go to Pakistan and play’. They began fighting and when my uncle Sajid intervened, one of the boys slapped him and said, ‘You wait, we will show you’.”

10 minutes later they were joined by some more men who attacked the family with sticks, iron rods, hockey sticks, and water pipes. The family rushed into their home but the mob managed to barge in and beat them.

One of the victims alleged the accused warned the family to “empty the house and leave or else we will capture it”. A mob of over 40 people was allegedly involved in the attack on the family.

The police stated that “We have registered a case of attempt to murder and other relevant sections against the attackers at Bhondsi Police station. We have arrested six goons and efforts are on to identify others with the help of the video.”

Despite continuously calling the police, they took about 40 minutes to come to their rescue and by the time police reached the spot, the attackers had escaped, alleged the family members.

Delhi Chief Minister took to Twitter and condemned the attack, “Hitler too used do this for power. Hitler’s goons used to beat people up, used to murder people. And the police would register a case against people who were beaten up,” he tweeted.
