Golan Heights: Ultimately, Iran-backed forces have withdrawn their heavy weapons from Golan Heights. They moved the weapons to a distance of 85 km from the line of demarcation.
However, the Israeli government said that it is an inadequate step, Al-Jazeera reported.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Special Envoy to Syria, Mr. Alexander Lavrentiev said that there is no heavy equipment unit within 85 km from Golan Heights. However, he did not make any statement on the duration of the agreement.
Russia has also made it clear that it supports the deployment of only Syrian forces near the Golan.
However, Israel wants Iran-backed forces to exit Syria completely.
On Monday, Syrian forces have won against Syrian armed opposition and regained complete control of the border.
It may be mentioned that Israel says that it does not want the Iranian army to form a permanent military base near the border. Israel has also increased the number of attacks against the targets located inside Syria.
Regional Cooperation Minister, Tzachi Hanegbi said that military intervention by Iran in Syria is a matter of concern. He also said that Iranian missiles and drones in Syria are a threat to Israel.
Earlier, Russia said that it will keep Iranian force 100 km from Golan. However, this offer was rejected by Israel.
On Monday, Anatoly Viktorov, Russia’s ambassador to Israel said that Russia cannot force Iran to exit Syria.
It may be noted that Israel has occupied the Golan Heights in the 1967 Middle East war. For many decades, there were no activities on the border after the 1974 disengagement agreement.
However, due to the Syrian Civil War which started in 2011, many rebels came near the area.
