Hyderabad: The proposed permanent toilets for tourists near Darbar Hall in the Golconda Fort has got the Heritage activists worried. The activists have expressed their doubts on the construction of those toilets.
They demanded that the authorities of the Archaeological Survey of India should reconsider this idea as it has raised many questions.
Professor Osmania University, Mr Hashmath Ali, Mr Saroj Ahmed, Convenor Intach, Hyderabad Chapter, Ms P. Anuradha, Dr Lubna Sarwath, Dr Athar Ali Asst. and Dr Mohammed Safiullah visited the site and inspected the holes.
Mr Hashmat Kamal stated that, “The construction of toilets was considered to be breaching the ancient monument act. There was no need to construct toilets in the vicinity of Bala Hisar. There is also no need to construct toilets at such a height as it would create different problems. Instead, ASI could install temporary modern toilets.”
Last year in September, the maintenance of Golconda Fort was taken by the Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao (GMR) Sports Group under the Centre’s ‘Adopt a Heritage’ scheme to enhance its beauty.
