New Delhi: Clerics and Muslim community showed strong resentment over the clearance of triple talaq ordinance by the government in the cabinet. They termed it interference in shariah and said the government has cleared the ordinance to cover its failures.
Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani expressed concern over the passing of ordinance and condemned it saying it is interference in religious affairs. He said constitution of India guarantees freedom of religion. Talaq and Nikah are religious affairs; any kind of interference by the government is unacceptable.
National president Tanzeem Ulama-e-Hind Maulana Syed Ahmed Khizr Shah Masoodi said the ordinance is against the Muslim women. Editor of Tarjuman monthly Maulana Nadeem Al Wajidi said the passing of ordinance by the government is undemocratic. It shows the dictatorship and also reflects the disappointment of the Modi government.
Showing his anger on the ordinance, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind treasurer Maulana Haseeb Siddiqui claimed that Modi government wants to win 2019 election with the help of triple talaq ordinance. If Modi government is so concerned about Muslim women it should provide reservation to Muslim women in education and employment he said.
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved an ordinance making triple talaq a punishable offence.
