Govt Increases rates for Beedi Leaves Collection

Hyderabad: The Forest Department of the State Government has issued orders increasing the cool rates for collection of beedi leaves (tunikaaku). About 2.5 lakh workers are expected to engage in beedi leaves collection in the forest areas of the state from April. The Department has set a target of 2.09 lakh standard bags of beedi leaves collection this year.

According to the order, the beedi leaf collectors in Bhadrachalam forest area will get Rs.1.80 for a 50 leaves bundle (Katta), as against the earlier Rs.1.55 paise. In other forest areas, the rate will be increased from Rs.1.50 paise to Rs.1.75 paise per bundle.
