Gujarat: 40-year-old Dalit man allegedly forced to lick shoes of 15 cops in lockup

Ahmedabad: In a shameful incident which took place in Gujarat, a 40-year-old Dalit man was forced to lick shoes of policemen.

According to the news published in TOI, Harshad Jadav, a resident of Amraiwadi was held for allegedly assaulting a cop on 29th December. He alleged that in the police station, he was forced to lick the shoes of 15 cops. A case is also registered for assault and under the SC and ST Act.

In the complaint, he said that on 29th December, when he saw a crowd at the Saibaba Temple, he tried to inquire the reason. The constable, Vinodbhai Bahubhai who was present at the spot started beating him. His finger also got injured.

He further said that his wife and mother tried to intervene. However, accused manhandled them.
After manhandling, all the three were taken to police station where Jadav was put in the lock-up. In the afternoon on the same day, Vinod and other cops asked his caste and then forced him to apologize to the constable by touching his feet. When he started bending in order to seek apologize, he was allegedly asked to lick shoes of Vinod and other policemen.

Later, in LG Hospital, it was confirmed that Jadav’s finger was fractured. However, police reportedly asked him not to say to anyone.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ashok Kumar Yadav, Addl. Commissioner of Police, Sector II, said that the investigation is going on to know the facts, TOI reported.
